RULES OF DERBY:
• All Manitoba sport fishing rules apply (barbless hooks).
• No live bait. Frozen baitfish are allowed.
• NEW THIS YEAR: As per Manitoba regulation, Walleye over 45cm and all Pike over 75cm may not be possessed. Therefore they cannot be brought to the weigh tent to be weighed. These will be weighed on handheld digital scales by tournament officials at the hole and released immediately. all other fish will be brought to the weigh tent as usual.
• Anglers must have a valid Manitoba fishing license, Metis status card or Treaty status ID card.
• 1 hole per entry (1 line per hole) - maximum 2 holes per angler.
• Anglers may fish any unoccupied hole, and must claim hole with the hole claim tag attached to this ticket.
• Paid contestants who are fishing, and visitor pass holders will be the only ones allowed to enter the Derby site.
Visitor passes will be available at the ticket tent on the ice. Visitor passes are $10, all proceeds will go to the St. Amant Foundation
Visitors are not allowed to fish or help with the landing of fish.
• To purchase 2nd hole ticket, the 1st ticket must be present at time of sale.
• Anglers must have ALL tickets clearly visible upon entry, or you will not be permitted to enter the Derby site.
• All coolers, pails, portable shacks will be checked before entering Derby site. • Portable shacks are permitted however no shack shall be erected until the beginning of the Derby (11:00 am).
• Only holes drilled in Derby grid and drilled by the Derby committee are eligible to be fished.
• Bring an ax or chip bar to re-open holes as the holes are drilled through the ice the day before the Derby. Holes may freeze overnight.
• No motorized vehicles within 50 meters of Derby site area other than official’s vehicles. • Competitors must be a minimum of 18 years of age unless they have a parent or guardian fishing with them.
• Anglers will be allowed to enter the fishing area at 9:00 am and may use depth locators to find depth. No line shall go in the water until the beginning of the Derby (11:00 am). Electronic fish finders are allowed.
• Each angler may occupy or reserve only as many holes as that angler has purchased tickets (maximum of 2 per angler).
• You must be physically present in line to reserve your place.
• If you have to leave the fishing area for any reason, you must exit and enter through the check-in line.
• Horn will sound to begin and end the Derby.
• All fish must be weighed-in and released alive (dead or dying fish will be disqualified).
• Fish must be brought to the scale in a container of water. Example: cooler or pail of at least 5 gallon size.
• Only one prize per entry may be awarded, two tickets = 2 prizes.
• Absolutely no passing of fish amongst contestants. Incident must be reported immediately for the organizer to make his decision regarding disqualification.
• ID tag must be worn to weigh fish.
• In case of a tie, fish weighed first will win a higher prize.
• The hidden weight will be revealed and announced at 2:00pm. The angler who catches the fish closest to the hidden weight will be the winner.
• In case of a tie in the hidden weight contest, fish weighed first will be the sole potential winner.
• No pre-fishing the Derby site for 30 hours before Derby start time.
• The Tournament Director has the right to delay or shorten the tournament, subject to weather or safety conditions.
• Should inclement weather or unsafe ice conditions cause Derby cancellation on March 16, 2024, all prizes will be awarded through a public random draw on March 23, 2024. Time and place will be posted on Derby website or by calling 1-866-676-FISH.
• Official notices will be posted on www.winterfishoff.ca and on our social media feeds or by calling 1-866-676-FISH.
• Contestants do not need to be present to collect prizes, however contestants are responsible for applicable shipping charges.
• Tickets are transferable and no refunds will be given.
• Failure to comply with the Derby rules will result in disqualification.
• Decision of official is final!
